Kiteboards
Kiteboards are similar to snowboards, but are generally more lightweight because they are intended for use in the water. They use a binding system that consists of a pad for under the foot and a strap that goes across the top, keeping you secured to the board. However, unlike waterskiing or wake boarding, kiteboarders use a large kite which acts like a sail to propel them, rather than a motor boat.
Kiteboards are usually constructed from several layers of differing materials. Most quality boards are made with a closed-cell foam core. Closed-cell foam does not absorb water and will inevitably be more durable.
Kiteboards have to be lightweight in order to function properly. No kiteboard should be heavier than about 6.5 lbs, and this includes the weight of the footpads and straps. This will ensure that you don’t get bogged down while out on the water.
