Kiteboard Leash
The need for a kiteboard leash is debatable. As with surfboards, the leashes are designed to make sure the rider doesn’t get too far separated from the board in the event of a wipe-out. However, there are some problems that go along with these leashes as well.
The biggest problem with using a kiteboard leash is the increased possibility of serious injury to the rider. When a rider falls off of the board, these leashes can sometimes snap the board back towards the rider. This often results in the board causing blunt force trauma to the body of the rider, and more often than not, this trauma is to the head.
For this reason, many people recommend taking the kiteboard leash off of the board. If you choose to keep the leash, make sure that you wear head and chest protection. An impact vest and a helmet can greatly reduce the chances of becoming injured.
