Kiteboarding Kites

Kiteboarding kites are an essential element of the sport. They act as a kind of sail which the rider uses to pull them across the water. The differences in kite design can greatly affect the way they perform.

For the beginner, “trainer” kiteboarding kites are typically the best option. Trainer kites are usually relatively small and therefore do not pull as hard as their larger counterparts. Inflatable kites are also common for beginners because they float, and are therefore easier to re-launch from the water.

Most kiteboarding kites come in hybrid, bend or flat, or C-shaped designs. C-shaped kites are generally the least expensive but are harder to re-launch from the water. Bend or flat and hybrids are generally recommended for the average kiteboarder.
